2011 Marks the Passing of Gordon Kane, Founder of COI and IRZoom

Gordon Kane, our chief engineer and founder, passed away in the summer of 2011. Gordon was the engineer’s engineer, combining an excitement for technology with an optimistic outlook that infused the company he started in 1985. He was a natural leader, an inventor, an avid sailor, a steadfast friend, and an entrepreneur. He inspired unparalleled loyalty, as evidenced by the stable staff that worked alongside him for over 20 years.
Gordon had many other achievements throughout his long career. Before he founded COI, he was President, Treasurer, Director and CEO for Angenieux, Inc., where he directed all optical manufacturing operations. Prior to that he was Chief Engineer for the Quantum Physics Department and later Gunflash system Project Manager for Sanders Associates. He also worked as a group leader for Edgerton, Germeshausen & Grier (EG&G) in the Nuclear Weapons Test Department. In this position, he was directly responsible for instrumentation design, measurement and field operations for the ALPHA program of nuclear weapons for Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory and Livermore National Laboratory.
Gordon also directly served his country with distinction as an officer in the US Army, and dedicated much of his career to making the battlefield a safer place for other soldiers.
Gordon Kane’s strong spirit, loyalty and true dedication will be felt for many years to come, by all of us at Computer Optics and IRZoom, by his family, and by those who worked with and knew Gordon, through the years. We’ll miss you, Gordon. |
