Mr. Gordon Kane – US Veteran, CEO
Gordon Kane is Chief Engineer and CEO of Computer Optics Inc. He specializes in design of optical surveillance and reconnaissance systems for our military and industrial optics. Upon graduating from MIT, Mr. Kane volunteered for service in the US Army Ordnance Corps. He served with distinction for eight years in the deployment of heavy weapons, and explosives, and later as a reserve specialist in combat reconnaissance and intelligence.
After his release from active duty in the US Army, Mr. Kane was invited to join the technical staff of Edgerton, Germeshausen & Grier (EG&G) where he designed gamma neutron and nuclear fluorescence detection equipment. He was then appointed the Program Manager for the ALPHA GROUP, Nuclear Weapons Test Division, responsible for the instrumentation design, measurement and field operations for nuclear weapons. The ALPHA project supported both the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory and Livermore National Laboratory operations, and functioned as technical advisor for nuclear counterintelligence.
Mr. Kane then joined Sanders Associates as the system’s project engineer in Gunflash detection. His team developed a system for detecting gunflash for counter battery fire missions and successfully deployed it in the Viet Nam war. He also worked in surveillance systems for the elimination of enemy snipers. Before founding Computer Optics, he served as served as president, treasurer, technical director and CEO for Angenieux, Inc., where he directed all the operations of this optical zoom lens manufacturing company serving the military, movie and film industries.
Mr. Kane received his B.S.E.E. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his Masters Degree in Optics and Physics from Northeastern University. His patent work pertains to certain nuclear fluorescence sensors and precision optical measurement instruments.
Dr. Jonathan S. Kane – President
Dr. Kane joined Computer Optics Inc. in 1996 as the Director of Research and Development and was later promoted to President. Under his direction, the company has evolved to include several distinct divisions, including IRZoom.com, which has rapidly become a key player in the infrared zoom lens market.
For the nine years prior to joining COI, Dr. Kane worked with the Sensors Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory, where he was a senior scientist in charge of basic research in Electro-optics and advanced signal processing. In his position at the Air Force, he did extensive work in algorithmic development and signal processing for military combat generated signals to extract targeting information.
Dr. Kane’s current research interests include advanced data processing, optical design, test and measurement equipment, electro-optical systems and novel scanning systems. He currently holds eight patents, and has two more in process, relating to optics and optical data processing.
Dr. Kane received his BS in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his masters in electro-optics from Tufts University. He completed his PhD in opto-electronics, from Boston University, in 1996.
Dean Mattucci – Senior Optomechanical Engineer
Dean Mattucci serves as the chief optomechanical designer for Computer Optics Inc. and its IRZoom.com division. As a member of the senior design team, Mr. Mattucci works closely with COI’s optical designers and engineers, machinists, coating, polishing and other staff to bring each project to fruition. He also directs COI’s in-house CNC machine shop, overseeing all aspects of the business from design to business development. Before joining Computer Optics Inc., Mr. Mattucci worked with Angeniuex Inc. as the assistant mechanical engineer and draftsman, and was directly responsible for zoom lens design.
Mr. Mattucci has attended the University of New Hampshire, Jacksonville University, and the University of Lowell. His educational background encompasses Mechanical Engineering, CNC Programming and AutoCAD.
Brian Stuart – Senior Optical Engineer
Brian Stuart has served as Senior Optical Engineer for COI’s manufacturing operations since February 2002. His duties include all aspects of optical design, tolerancing, and final test. Mr. Stuart works regularly with Zemax, FRED and COI’s proprietary software for zoom lens design. He brings over two decades of experience to the senior design team, collaborating closely with the company’s optomechanical engineering, machining, coating, polishing and assembly professionals. He is also actively involved in the ongoing development of COI’s coating laboratory and polishing capital equipment.
Brian Stuart served with distinction in the US NAVY as an Engineering Officer on the USS Briscoe and was the Senior Boarding Team Leader, maintaining UN sanctions during the Gulf War. He is a graduate of the University of Rochester’s School of Engineering with a B.S. in Optics.
